The Stage is Set

When I was serving as a principal in a smaller town in southwest Minnesota I had the chance to participate in a community musical…the Broadway version of Annie. (Those who know me well are now wondering who in their right mind would allow me to sing….into a microphone…but that is the topic of another blog.)

The entire musical production process now seems like a blur, but I vividly remember the dedication of the cast and crew, supreme skill of the directors, and support of the audience as the show was performed multiple times over a very successful weekend. Now, and without fail, every time I attend a musical or play I have a deeper appreciation for the work, preparation and behind-the-scenes efforts of the cast and crew.

The process of preparing for a musical is analogous to the work our school staff and community have done leading up to this first week of school. The work that went into our Open House & Curriculum Night Combo was in many ways the opening scene. Check out this video from the Scouts’ booth at Open House…what a blast!

Our teachers worked tirelessly over the summer to orchestrate several programming and classroom changes while seamlessly preparing their classrooms. Our custodial team worked in concert with other staff to prepare the building and grounds for a grand opening. Our office and secretarial team worked in harmony to prepare new enrollees and to welcome families to the Greenwood family. A myriad of parent volunteers and PTA support contributed to an amazingly positive and almost magical first act. The success of Open House and the first days of school are a product of the time and energy our school community continues to invest in our students.

The stage is set for an amazing year. Our entire cast is completely committed to success for each and every one of 725 VIPs we have the privilege of serving each day.

Please plan to attend the first PTA meeting on September 11th at 9:00 a.m. in the Greenwood Media Center. I’d appreciate the chance to share more about our school and get connected!
